 We are thrilled to announce our latest collaboration with Ryan Bischel (2019-2024 Notre Dame Hockey), a captain of a notable South Bend hockey team. Motivated by a desire to create something emblematic of their 2023-2024 team and the city they proudly call home, this collaboration is deeply rooted in South Bend’s rich hockey history, dating back to the inaugural game played at the University of Notre Dame in 1912 and today having the most devoted home town fans.

When asked what would be a symbolic representation for the team, Ryan without hesitation said the alligator, drawing inspiration from the 2000s-era Florida Gators, a narrative explored in the Netflix documentary “Untold: Swamp Kings.” The team resonated with the transformation of a ragtag group into a formidable winning machine. Following each victory, Ryan’s team celebrates with a yellow, crushed-in gator head, serving as a victory totem. The team’s ethos is encapsulated in the words FAST, FIGHT, and FREE.

At South Bend Locals, our commitment to authenticity is paramount. We meticulously integrated the team’s inspirations with South Bend’s history, featuring the roman numeral MCMXII to signify 1912, the year of the city’s first hockey game. Two clover leaves symbolize the Irish immigrant history, and the design is encased within the iconic Studebaker circle logo. This collaboration represents a genuine partnership between the team and South Bend Locals.

Notably, 100% of the team’s proceeds from hat sales will directly benefit their chosen charity, Kyle’s Legacy, a non-profit dedicated to supporting children and their families with special needs. This exclusive collaboration will be available on a 7-panel black snapback hat, accessible exclusively online at southbendlocals.com and in the South Bend Locals retail store at 528 E Colfax Ave, South Bend, IN 46617. The retail store is open Wednesday through Saturday.This initiative underscores our collective commitment to making a positive impact in our community.
